In Honor of “National French Toast Day”, I made, you guessed it…French Toast. But, since I was inspired from compiling this mornings post, it was not just your ordinary french toast. It was super special celebratory french toast made with a wonderful loaf of whole grain bread from a local bakery and it was topped with Cinnamon Cream Cheese.
Here is how you make it!
Ingredients:
For the Custard…
2 eggs
1/2 cup half and half
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon of fresh nutmeg (about 10 strokes on a microplane grater)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Bread…
4 slices of whole grain bread. Mine was a couple of days old so it really soaked up the custardy goodness.
Cinnamon Cream Cheese…
8 ounces cream cheese
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup half and half
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
Whisk all of your ingredients for your custard together.
Slice your bread and dip into your custard. Turn to side two and dip again. Place in a heavy pan with a bit of oil or on a griddle with medium heat. The medium heat allows the french toast to cook on the inside as well as the outside. Cook on the each side for 3 – 4 minutes, or until browned nicely and it begins firming to the touch when pressed in the middle.
While your french toast is cooking, combine all of the ingredients in your cinnamon cream cheese and mix with a hand mixer until it is smooth and fluffy.
If you are hankering for a way to celebrate National French Toast Day, this just might be it.
Blessings!
