Sticky Maple Walnuts…that just says YUM! It might be the memories I have with my grandparents walnut trees or it just might be the amazing smell coming from my oven that makes me so excited …probably a little of both.
When I was a little girl we would go to my grandparents home all the time. They had three huge walnut trees. Each year we would gather the walnuts with this cool walnut picker upper (not the official name I’m sure!), peel off the outer layer and then crack the shells and put the actual walnut meat in a big bowl. They had this cool thing that you would place the walnut in and then snap it and it would crack the walnut! You can imagine we really enjoyed that as children! My grandmother would then roast the walnuts and freeze them to use throughout the year. My grandpa would get his wallet out and pay us for our work. We liked that part!
Times like these are such a blessing. We were “working”, building good habits, and even more, making sweet memories that I carry with me even today!
Ok, back to the Sticky Maple Walnuts…these are amazing…especially when layered with Greek yogurt and bananas! Delicious! Really, these maple walnuts would be delicious in a salad, with pancakes, or even by themselves as a snack.
One of my favorite things about these treats, besides how yummy they are, is there is no refined sugar. You can eat a few with no guilt. So good! I will be keeping a jar of these handy for sure!
