Homemade Pie Crust doesn’t have to be intimidating. It can be quicker and easier and be lighter and flakier that you could have ever imagined. My family has made it for years and never realized how hesitant people are to take on this baking project!
Well, look no further!
Last night, when I made Pot Pie with Roasted Chicken and Veggies, I also made my family’s quick and easy homemade pie crust.
To make it even quicker, I utilized my Kitchen-aid mixer. It worked great!
Here is what I did:
Quick and Easy Homemade Pie Crust
Ingredients
2–1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, chilled and diced
1/2 cup ice water (ice used to make it really cold)
Instructions
- First, place the flour and salt and cubed butter in the bowl of your mixer. Attach the “whisk” attachment
- “Whisk” until the butter distributes into the flour and is in the size of peas. Some of the butter was a bit larger that that, but it still worked well and was flaky in the end.
- Next, switch to the dough hook attachment. Turn your mixer on low and slowly add the ice cold water. Your dough will begin to hold together and pull away from the sides of the bowl. If it does this before you use all of your water, it is no problem. Just stop adding it when it is no longer needed.
- Use your hands to press it together into a ball and chill for a 1/2 hour or so.
- Roll dough out and line your pie pans and fill.
My pie crust was used to make Pot Pie with Roasted Chicken and Veggies.

It depends on what type of pie you are making. If it is a pie like Pumpkin or Apple, just bake it according to the directions for that particular pie. If you are baking it without filling it, bake at 350 for 15 – 20 minutes with some sort of “weight” inside. Dry beans work well. Just place a sheet of parchment paper inside the crust and then place a cup or so of beans on top of the parchment paper. That will stop the empty crust from puffing up when it is baked. Blessings!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your easy pie crust recipe! I just started to make pies a couple of years ago using my own crust instead of store bought. I do not make them as often as my husband would like because I was horrible at the hand mixing technique! I always thought, “there has got to be a better way!”. So, Meci Boucoup!

never made pie crust / almost 69yrs/ could I use my old mixer with one beater on low? and I could use encouragement to make the changes to grow in the lord. thank you , me.
Hi Anita, You can try your mixer, it will likely work to cut in the butter, but, when adding the water, you will likely need to just use a fork to mix together so it doesn’t get over mixed without the dough hook.
