My daughter insisted that I post this recipe because she enjoyed it so much. I couldn’t figure out what to have for lunch, and then the light bulb went on! We had sprouted wheat bagels in the fridge…and cheese and prosciutto in the deli drawer and basil on the window sill in the kitchen…that sounds like a GREAT sandwich! So, here is what I did.
Ingredients:
2 Sprouted Wheat Bagels
4 Thin slices of prosciutto
8 Thin slices of cheddar cheese (mozzarella would be great here too)
8 Basil leaves
Instructions:
First, slice and place your bagel in the toaster. You will end up with a crisper sandwich if you begin with a crispy bagel.
Next, I warmed the prosciutto for a couple of seconds on each side…literally 🙂 and sliced the cheddar cheese.
Then, when the bagel pops up from the toaster, place your prosciutto and cheese and basil on your bagel.
Place assembled sandwich on a griddle or in a pan and brown on each side over medium heat while the cheese inside melts. Then, enjoy!
Adding herbs to sandwiches elevates them from the normal to something special. Unless of course you add herbs all the time…then that would be normal. 🙂 Next time, I would like to try adding some thinly sliced chicken sausage in place of the prosciutto and some chopped sage in place of the basil…that sounds so good! Blessings to you! 🙂
