Joy to the World!

Joy to the World is another one of my favorite Christmas songs. I am so grateful to the Lord that He sent JOY to the World! It is rich and such a great reminder of why we are celebrating this season.

Here are the lyrics:

Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

The first verse reminds us to prepare room in our hearts for Him. Our hearts are filled with SO much it does take preparation. We must remember that the shiny things of this earth are not shiny forever and they do not offer lasting JOY. As those things lose their grasp on us, we can then ponder the greatness of our Lord and the miracle of Jesus being born as a baby in a manager.

Verse three exhorts us to stop our sins and sorrows from growing and to instead turn to the blessings that flow because of Jesus’ birth, life, death, and Resurrection. Of course, this song is talking about His birth…but there is SO much more. 🙂 We must turn from the temporary pleasure of the world and find our lasting joy in Him.

The final verse reminds us that He does indeed rule the world and He does it with TRUTH and GRACE. He does this perfectly. John 1:14 tells us this as well. “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” We see the glories of His righteousness and we wonder of His GREAT love for those who were yet sinners when Jesus died for us. Amazing.

He indeed brought JOY to the WORLD! Let us “repeat the sounding joy” this Christmas season and throughout the year.

Blessings to you!
