I Choose Gratefulness…

This was one full week! I am thankful to say that it was a week full of good things. Today alone we took our little one to the doctor’s office for his 1 year check up, shopped for his birthday party goodies, had a 12:00 meeting at home, made clown cake pops with my daughter, drove her to Bible study, and began decorating for Sunday’s party. I will soon be on my way to pick her up. 🙂 While I am a bit exhausted, I find my heart deeply grateful for the blessings God has given me in my life.

First, I think of my husband. I thank God for him! Robin gives me the wonderful gift of letting me be who God has made me to be. He works hard to provide for our family so that I can stay home and raise our children. We agree that this is the best way for our home to work and for us to honor God as a family. By doing this, he allows me to serve our family and help our children grow up to be who the Lord would have them to be. This freedom is a gift and a privilege and I am grateful. I never want to take these gifts for granted. He also encourages me to pursue things that interest me as time allows. Again, this is a gift. Near the top of the list of what I am grateful for is his faithful love for me. So much of the time I don’t deserve it and yet, he loves me. I sometimes don’t completely understand this unconditional love. I am humbled. At the very tippy top of the list is his love for God. I am grateful that He puts the Lord first in his life. This commitment to the Lord is his guiding light.

Today, I am also very thankful for our home and all that enter it. Last night we had sweet fellowship with the families in our Bible study. What a blessing to hear the laughter and pitter patter of the feet of the children who come! What a blessing it is for our daughter to be able to teach these little ones while the adults gather together. What a joy it is to sing the praises of the Lord together, all of us with our children. Monday, I will welcome our discussion table from our mom’s group and their children. I can’t wait. I thank God for a home where we can serve Him.

I am also grateful to the Lord for His working in our lives. My daughter and I have had two wonderful days of school and play. It is God’s work in our lives that makes this possible. I am so grateful for these memories that we are making that will last a lifetime. Because of God’s working in our lives, we also have our baby son…I guess I should say, our great big one year old! His laughter and constant smiles fill our home with joy and lightheartedness. God knew we needed him and brought him here. I am teary-eyed as I write this and think upon what a blessing he is to us! It is also because of God’s working in our lives that our son is at a wonderful Christian College. And, today, I am grateful that he is coming home this weekend! I can’t wait to hear his voice and listen to his stories as he tells us of the days and weeks he has spent away. There is a hole without him here, yet that too is by God’s design as he grows into a man.

I am running out of time here…but lastly, I must mention how overjoyed I am for the families that God has given us on both sides! And, I am eagerly anticipating gathering here in our home this weekend! I am SO excited and can hardly wait! This is yet another gift from God.

This post may make it look as though I live a perfect little life with no trials or bumps. Please don’t be fooled. My life is just like everyone else’s. Yet, today, I choose gratefulness. I choose to ponder the great gifts from above. I choose to remember the things that make my heart sing.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention that the greatest gift God has given is His Son, Jesus. Because of Him, I have life. Because of Him, I have hope. Because of Him, I have purpose…to live for His glory.

Praise God for His kindness! He is so good to us…and I am grateful!

Thinking back to when we worked together, you were so joy-filled – peals of laughter coming out of the corner of Student Emp and more often than not a big, radiant smile on your face – but what a blessing it is to hear how God has filled your life with loved ones and that you are taking time to reflect on His grace and choose gratitude! I’m praising God with you for His goodness.
