A week ago, I was scanning a variety of blog posts as well as browsing Pinterest and somewhere I ran across a post about where the author described the things she loved about her daughter. That post got me thinking and spurred me toward penning the same expression of gratefulness for my daughter. I don’t know about you, but as a Mom, my focus so easily drifts away from the many qualities that I appreciate about my children. I so quickly move into what I hope to help them grow through. On one hand, this show how seriously I take my responsibility as their Mom. But, sadly, the other thing it makes apparent is my lack of gratefulness and loss of perspective at times. Each of my children are such a blessing and I thank God for them! I want to be a Mom that expresses my gratefulness for them and the things I love about them much more often than I do the areas where growth is needed. There is a balance I am missing at times. I must remember what the Psalmist proclaims in Psalm 127:3, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.” Verse 5 says, “Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.” Happy is the man…Happy. Not discouraged, not anxious, not overwhelmed, but happy.
Since this weekend my husband and older son were away at our Church’s Men’s retreat. I spent the weekend with my daughter and my little son. My dad went on the retreat as well, so my daughter and little son and I went to my Mom and Dad’s to be with my Mom. We had a wonderful time visiting and relaxing. On the eve of this enjoyable weekend, it is the perfect time to ponder the things I am grateful for about my daughter. I am choosing to remember why I watch her life and marvel at the work that God has done and continues to do as He brings her closer to womanhood. It is my hope that this gratefulness will catapult me into a week of encouraging words and remembering how blessed I am to be her Mom. He loves her so much and I am so grateful that He has given her to me to love as well.
Here are 16 qualities I love about my daughter:
- I love her enthusiasm for life.
- I love her silly sense of humor.
- I love her desire to please the Lord.
- I love her creativity.
- I love her curiosity.
- I love how she nurtures and cares for animals.
- I love that she names everything.
- I love how much she loves our family.
- I love her tenacity.
- I love to hear her sing when she doesn’t know I am listening.
- I love that she keeps trying, again and again if necessary.
- I love listening to her talk about what she values.
- I love the sound of her laughter.
- I love watching her play with our little one.
- I love her smile.
- I love how God uses her in my life.
Yes, children are indeed a heritage from the Lord. Remembering this humbles me and envelopes me in gratefulness. May I endeavor to remember each day! I thank God for giving me my daughter (and my sons! There will be gratefulness lists for them as well in the future as well. :)) He is so very kind to me.
As we begin this new week, please consider sharing what you do to help you remember to be a grateful Mom who has encouraging words for your children.
