A few weeks ago, our littlest and I were shopping at Target as we often do while my daughter is in her science class. I picked up a book for him to look at while I was finishing up, intending to buy it when I reached the checkout counter. While waiting in line for the cashier to be available, a very kind family began playing with our littlest as he was sitting in the cart. He was laughing and enjoying the attention the whole time we were in line. I always enjoy watching him interacting with others and this time was especially fun because they were really getting into entertaining him! His laughter was filling the air causing so many around us to smile.
After 10 minutes or so it was our turn to buy our items. Since he was holding his book, the cashier rang up everything else. When it came time to purchase the book, the kind woman behind me said, “Can we buy the book for him?”. I thanked her and told her that wasn’t necessary, but she insisted…she said, “can we please buy the book?”. I so appreciated her kind gesture that I allowed her to do so. The cashier rang it up and she handed it to our little one. He was all smiles. 🙂 I thanked the nice woman and her children and we headed to our car…I was so thankful for her kindness…it really stood out and was such a blessing to us…I was smiling the whole way there!
As I was buckling our son into his car seat the kind woman shouted out to me across the parking isle…”We are beginning 365 days of kindness and you are our first day!” I am thankful to have been her first day and thankful for the inspiration of purposeful kindness. I have thought on their gracious actions often since that day. I am reminded how much we can bless others by just considering them and placing them above ourselves…even just for a few minutes!
Blessings to you!
That is really fun. I’ve had that happen a couple of times and it always blows my mind! Such a small act of kindness, but they mean so much, don’t they?
They really do mean so much!
