Hark the Herald Angels Sing

I think I am stuck on Christmas songs…but that can’t be too much of a surprise during this season. 🙂 After all, it is the only “socially acceptable” time to enjoy them :). I don’t completely follow “social acceptability” here. 🙂

This is another wonderful Christmas carol with rich and meaningful words. It calls us to listen to the angels as they sing about the salvation that arrived to the earth in Jesus and tells of the glory that is due Him.

The second stanza reminds us that Jesus is the “everlasting Lord” and He came just in time. He was born of a virgin, and is the Godhead, veiled in human flesh, coming as a man. The third stanza reminds us what it means to us…there is hope! I am SO encouraged by the hope that is proclaimed. He brought light and life and because of Him, we will be raised again to new life.

Read below…and it is my hope that these words would encourage your heart this Christmas season and always.

Hark the herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled”
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
“Christ is born in Bethlehem”
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Christ by highest heav’n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin’s womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris’n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Enjoy this rendition from Charlie Brown 🙂

Blessings!
